B I was not looking forward to this day at all; I thought it would end up being a boring waste of time. Obviously, I had no idea that this would be the day that changed my entire life and outlook on the future. I woke up that morning of Career Day with the terrible feeling of dread. On that day we were forced to go to four classes that we chose and sit through an hour of someone talking on and on about his or her job. It had been a very unpleasant day for me the previous year. I fought the urge to roll over and come back to dreamland, and dragged myself to school. After sitting through the first three classes I was ready to collapse onto one of those terribly cold and hard desks. I struggled to the last class expecting the same meaningless words and intended for a slumber. However, as soon as the woman started talking, I was immediately and surprisingly attracted and began to show interest. She was an art therapist, and her job sounded like the most wonderful experience to me. It included two of my favorite things - art and psychology. When the bell rang, I was delightedly amazed at how fast that hour had passed. I felt like a new person. I had a goal for the future now! It was the most wonderful feeling in the world. I couldn’t believe that for once I had really gotten something out of Career Day, and even more than that, I found my place in this confusing world. I was so glad that I hadn’t rolled back over and missed this chance of a lifetime. 24. What do we learn about the author from the second paragraph? A. He had a terrible dream. B. He repeatedly talked about his job. C. He was looking forward to Career Day. D. He disliked last year’s Career Day. 25. What does the underlined word in Paragraph 3 mean? A. A short sleep. B. A new speech. C. A terrible cold. D. A mental conflict. 26. Which of the following is true about the classes? A. They were off the point. B. All of them weren’t meaningless. 资阳英语试题 第 4页(共 10 页) C. They were conducted by the same teacher. D. The author was attracted at the start of the classes. 27. Why did the author write this text? A. To tell us what he gained from Career Day. B. To invite more people to attend Career Day. C. To describe how disappointing Career Day was. D. To argue whether Career Day was useful or not. C Starbucks will stop using plastic straws from its stores globally by 2020, in a nod to the growing push for businesses to be more environmentally friendly. The Seattle-based company said on Monday it will instead use straws made from other materials, and lids designed not to need straws. McDonald's also recently said it would switch to paper straws in the UK and Ireland by next year, and test alternatives to plastic straws in some US locations. In February, Dunkin' Donuts said that it would refuse polystyrene foam (塑料泡沫) cups from its stores by 2020. Environmental activists have been pressuring businesses to ditch plastic straws because they can end up in the ocean and hurt marine life. The push gained great support after a video in 2015 showed rescuers removing a straw from a sea turtle's nose in great detail. Local governments have also been looking at the issue. Last week, Seattle’s ban on single-use plastic straws and utensils in food service outlets took effect, and Starbucks says it already offers alternative straws there. Similar proposals are being considered elsewhere, including New York and San Francisco. While straws have become a highly-concerned issue, they make up only about 4% of the plastic trash by number of pieces, and far less by weight. Straws add up to only about 2,000 tons of the nearly 9m tons of plastic waste that hits waters each year. 28. What can be inferred from Paragraph 1? A. There will be alternatives to plastic straws. B. The use of plastic straws has been stopped. C. Paper straws will be popular in the UK and Ireland. D. Some companies are undertaking their social responsibility. 29. Why is the video in 2015 mentioned in the text? A. To stress the necessity of stopping plastic straws. B. To explain how to remove plastic straws. C. To show how to rescue sea turtles. D. To get the readers’ support. 30. The numbers in the last paragraph suggest that_________. A. plastic straws do little harm 资阳英语试题 第 5页(共 10 页) B. plastic waste gets to waters more easily C. plastic waste should be highly focused on D. plastic straws are a highly-concerned issue 31. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Refuse plastic straws in companies. B. Replace plastic straws with alternatives. C. Reduce plastic waste by combined efforts. D. Stop using plastic products in catering business. D About 3 years earlier, a funny thing happened about China’s first female Nobel Prize winner, Tu Youyou, giving her acceptance speech in Sweden. When that speech reached her home country, two entirely different versions appeared, and the false one became a viral hit. Guess which version is genuine? The one that matter-of-factly tells about the discovery of artemisinin(青蒿素), or the one with extreme literary style, complete with her father explaining the origin of her given name and poetic lines such as,“I like tranquility( 宁 静 ), tranquil as the leaves of sweet wormwood(青蒿); I avoid the spotlight, just as the petals of sweet wormwood do ; I aspire to be upright, as are the stems of sweet wormwood”. Most readers were so touched by the literary version that they were left in tears. However, they just forgot that Tu is not a woman of letters, but one of science. It was totally made up by someone who obviously has great literary talent, but could not understand the inner life of a scientist. I don’t know who made up the Tu speech, or for what purpose. It does not strike me as funny. Fortunately, no mainstream media seemed to have been fooled. Yet the false one has probably been shared more than the real one because it played up to the Chinese stereotype(固定 形式)of what such a speech should be. China’s cyberspace is full of educational and uplifting quotes, and quite a lot of them are made up. There is a joke that says the United States’ spying network collected and examined all the Internet data in China and found that the Chinese are addicted to such chicken soup, including that from untrustworthy sources. 32. Most readers were touched by the false speech probably because of______. A. Tu’s real life B. its writing style C. their understanding of science D. their passions for literature 33. About the literary version, which of the following is true? A. It reflected Tu’s inner life. B. Its purpose was to get click rate. C. It failed to attract the leading media. D. It’s about the discovery of artemisinin. 34. What attitude does the writer seem to hold to the false speech? 资阳英语试题 第 6页(共 10 页) A. Negative. B. Positive. C. Objective. D. Uncertain. 35. What’s the purpose of this article? A. To prove that false news attracts more readers. B. To tell readers that the false speech is more literary. C. To inform us that there is much false news on the Internet. D. To warn readers that all Internet news are very untrustworthy. 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该 项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。 You can read a book for pleasure one time through and be just fine. However, it is harmful to deal with academic reading the same way. In order to read and comprehend a book or article for school, you need to be much more strategic. 36_________ Understand genres and themes. In most reading tests, the student is asked to read a passage and predict what might happen next. 37 _________This is to make sure you’re able to infer information from the clues. The type of text of a book helps you make predictions about the action—which helps you better understand the action. Read with tools. Any time you read to learn, use active reading skills and there are tools that are not so good to use. A pencil and a pack of sticky notes will be good tools. You can mark in the margins without any damage. Use your notes to write down thoughts, impressions, predictions, and questions as you read. 38 _________You create some serious damage when highlighting. 39 __________ It's a no-brainer that you should take the time to identify and look up new and unfamiliar words as you read. But it's important to make a log book of those new words, and revisit them some time after you've finished reading that book. The more you study a subject, the more it sinks in. Analyze the title(and subtitles). If you are wondering why I would mention the title last, I can assure you that there is a good reason. The title is often the last thing to be adjusted once a writer has finished writing. He/she may reflect on the true message or purpose and come up with a new title. 40_________ A. Find out the new words. B. Work the vocabulary skills. C. That is, if you want to earn a good grade! D. A highlighter, on the other hand, can be a really bad tool. E. What might happen next will help you a lot in reading? F. Prediction is a common reading comprehension strategy. 资阳英语试题 第 7页(共 10 页) G.
